About me
I have experience have in both chairs thus I know from first-hand experience how psychotherapy can help. That is why I am a huge advocate of therapy and can empathise with the client journey into therapy and the therapeutic process.
Professionally, I am a BACP accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, holding a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling working in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy's Code of Ethics and Practice.
The diversity of clients I have worked with has exposed me to a broad range of experiences, such as clients dealing with difficulties such as depression, anxiety, worked related stress, impact of adoption, interpersonal trauma, self-harm, relationships problems, to sexual and emotional abuse. Some clients I have worked with have come for a number of years while others have come for a handful of sessions. I’m never prescriptive about how many sessions a client should have, it’s all according to their needs and circumstances.

Motivation
I am a counsellor passionate about the role therapy can play in improving wellbeing and mental health. It takes immense courage to make the decision to examine the dark places in our lives. Therefore when a client makes the commitment to embark on the process I am driven to do all that I can to facilitate that person’s journey. I often feel privileged to be in a position to provide a safe place where the inner self can be explored and difficulties confronted. Most of all it is rewarding to witness the transformation of clients.
Philosophy
It is important to appreciate that at all times our feelings and emotions – excitement, anxiety, sadness, joy, lust, worry, I could go on - are telling us something and often the key is learning to hear/experience the story behind these emotions and feelings.
That said, I often witness people stuck in their lives and living in pain and I strive to work with clients by meeting them where they are to help them through reflection and discovery of unhealthy patterns. If this is done, the ripple effect could be the improved capacity to have more fulfilling relationships, more satisfying sexual experiences or confidence to take appropriate risks to achieve desired goals. On an even more profound level it can provide the opportunity to live with a greater sense of freedom and possibility.
Approach
My core therapeutic foundation is psychodynamic theory, as through personal and professional experience I have witnessed how the past can fundamentally shape our present. In addition to past experience it can be beneficial to identify and explore recurring themes and patterns, and the exploration of attempts to avoid distressing thoughts and behaviour. All this is issue dependent and as no one model or way of working has the definitive answer, I have learnt it is important to have a flexible approach and draw on other models and techniques such as psychological education or coping strategies as relevant to the needs of the client.
